Zdravstvena zaštita životinja u organskom stočarstvu

    Summary

The most significant aspects of health protection in organic livestock production, which are in detail presented in EU Regulative, as well as in organic agriculture standards of many countries, are discussed in this paper. Organic livestock production suppose that prevention is more important than therapy, and all operations in breeding practice or health protection are directed towards achievement of animal welfare. The prevention is conducted through a row of successive measures, which have for purpose to encourage development of natural immunity of animals. Veterinary drugs have limited and controlled terms of use, and alternative methods are favorable, e.g. phytotherapeutic and homeophathyc preparations. All operations are conducted in the manner that insures that animal suffering is minimized, and certain treatments, which are common in conventional livestock production, are limited or absolutely prohibit in organic production.
